Learning How to Learn: Classes in Howard County MD

The focus in the traditional classroom is on subject-matter content, whether it is math, science, or language arts. Overlooked are two key elements that have a major impact on students' learning and assessment.

First is a considered look at how individual students actually process information, and whether it is the same or different than the way the information is presented and assessed. Once students understand how they learn best as individuals and how to study productively for their learning style, their learning improves dramatically and they move forward with a new sense of confidence.

Second, the foundational skills of learning how to learn are a key to effective education. Strangely, the first time study skills are systematically presented in our educational system is at the college level. It is as though students are given the ingredients for constructing a meal, but no recipie. A small investment in teaching students such simple skills as how to take notes, manage their procrastination, study efficiently and effectively, get organized in a way that works for them  and deal with their motivation has a huge return.

The Stressless Tests® Method help students improve their grades and boost their confidence as they

Identify their dominant, brain-determined, learning style

Discover how their learning style affects test-taking, focusing,
subject-matter challenges, procrastination, organization, and more

Learn proven techniques and strategies to enhance learning style,
engage more of their brain’s capabilities, build confidence, and
    improve performance

Incorporate new concrete behavior and skills into their everyday work,
    visibly boosting their academic standing

The Middle School Study Skills Course helps each student acquire a solid foundation of study skills, bringing added self-confidence and higher levels of performance.

Students have the opportunity to begin to use their new skills from class one, and to receive support, feedback and new skill development in subsequent classes.

As always, interested and involved parents who support the use of these newly acquired skills in the classroom are an important factor.
